Netherlands lists Israel as a national security threat

The state of Israel has been listed by the Dutch government’s counter-terrorism agency as a threatening state actor alongside Iran, Russia and Turkey.

The report lists Israel in two separate sections. As a ‘subversive influence to alter public perception’ it cites the Israeli government’s influence efforts after the Ajax-Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer match in November 2024, in which it shared a secret dossier of pro-Palestinian Dutch citizens with selected local politicians and journalists, bypassing the Dutch authorities.

In relation to ‘interference in diplomatic and political affairs’ it cites the years-long US and Israeli campaign of sanctions and threats against the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court – both institutions based in the Netherlands.

The Netherlands’ “Threat Assessment State-sponsored Actors 2025” report was compiled by the National Coordinator for Terrorism and Security (NCTV) and released on 17 July 2025.
