BRAZIL 🇧🇷 NOW — From Eduardo Bolsonaro:
“PRESS RELEASE - EXECUTIVE ORDER ON TARIFFS
Although we have always prioritized more direct action against Alexandre de Moraes and his supporters, the true culprits behind the authoritarian escalation in Brazil, we understand that the tariffs announced a few weeks ago by President Donald Trump were a legitimate response to the Brazilian regime’s aggressions against American interests and citizens. The publication today of the order titled Executive Order on the Imposition of Sanctions on Persons Undermining Democracy in Brazil makes it clear that the objective of these measures is not commercial, but rather political and legal: to punish those responsible for the destruction of the Rule of Law in the country and to preserve fundamental democratic values, as the text expressly states.
While many poured gasoline on the fire with inflammatory statements and others opted for clumsy visits and negotiations, we worked directly in recent weeks to ensure that the measures were even better targeted, hitting the right mark and sparing the Brazilian people and the productive sector as much as possible. The result was the recent revocation of visas for several authorities, the application of the Magnitsky Act exclusively against Alexandre de Moraes today, and, in return, the exclusion of strategic sectors—such as fertilizers, energy, aviation, timber, orange juice, and other agribusiness products—from commercial tariffs. We hope that the Brazilian authorities understand the gravity of the moment and carefully consider their next steps. Persistence in political repression will lead to growing isolation, with lasting effects on Brazil’s economy and international relations.
