Israel denies thousands of Palestinian Christians access to occupied Jerusalem for Palm Sunday

Israeli authorities allowed only 6,000 Palestinian Christians to attend religious services marking Jesus’s entry to Jerusalem before his crucifixion

Access to Jerusalem for Palm Sunday celebrations was severely restricted for West Bank Christians due to Israeli military measures and limitations on Palestinian freedom of movement, WAFA news agency reported on 13 April.

Israeli authorities heavily restricted access, implementing tight security at checkpoints into Jerusalem and within the Old City.

Father Ibrahim Faltas, Vicar of the Custody of the Holy Land, stated that just 6,000 permits were granted to West Bank Christians, out of a total Christian population of approximately 50,000, to attend services at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in occupied Jerusalem’s Old City.
